Soon similar reports came from all over America start. This was not only the world's first sighting of a UFO. It was the birth of a phenomenon that still exercises an extraordinary fascination.
Two weeks after Arnold's sighting, something happened that was to become the biggest UFO conspiracy theory of all time. On or around the 2nd Juli1947 around something crashed in the desert from New Mexico, near the military base at Roswell.

The newspapers headlines: "Flying Disc captured by Air Force." Only 24 hours later, the military changed its story and claimed the Object, which it had first thought a flying disc, had been in fact a weather balloon that had crashed on a nearby farm.
Amazingly, took the media and the public this way without further explanation, in a way that are no longer possible. Until the late seventies Roswell disappeared from the news, but then took some of the officers involved at that time the word.

Another military witness who claimed that the Roswell incident in an alien space ship had crashed, Colonel Philip J. Corso. A former Pentagon employee stated that he had passed on his work in the technology of the recovered Roswell spaceship to American companies.
He claimed that inventions like the bullet-proof vest made of Kevlar, the stealth technology, night vision devices, lasers and integrated circuits are to lead all back to alien technology from the Roswell crash.
Shortly after he had set up these allegations, Corso died of a heart attack, which provided further conspiracy theories.

The weather officer of the airbase Shawbury described the UFO as a huge triangular-shaped device that hovered and then within seconds at a speed faster, which was several times over the aircraft of the Royal Air Force.
He estimated that the size of the UFO was somewhere between a Hercules transport aircraft and one Boeing 747 and testified that the aircraft had once hovered at a height of only about 130 meters.
